JAYPUR: A day after two men were arrested on Sunday on charges of raping a 16-year-old girl, two more accused are being sought in a case involving another accused, police said on Monday.
Police in Kerala were looking for an 18-year old man and a 19-year boy, and a woman who was last seen at a local shopping centre last month, said Santhosh Kumar, inspector general of police in Kottayam district.
The two were arrested last night and two others, aged 24 and 21, were also detained on Monday, police added.
Police have arrested three men on Sunday in the rape of a 16 year-old schoolgirl in the cantonments of Pannu district and arrested another boy on Monday for allegedly attacking the girl and killing her.
The girl and her 16-years-old sister and two male friends allegedly came to Kottakumalai town last month after visiting an NGO house, police sources said.
When the girl was about to go to school for the first time, the four young men allegedly grabbed her from behind and took turns raping her, sources said, adding they were arrested the next day.
The group of men had fled the area when the police reached, but the girl’s body was later found dumped by the roadside near the village of Jakhu.
Kottakam district chief minister P.S. Narasimha Rao confirmed the case against the accused as a kidnapping.
“We were informed about a kidnapping case and are investigating it.
The girl’s father and two other friends were arrested soon after,” he said.
Kerala Police said they have arrested a third man in connection with the case.
He is also being sought on charges related to other rape cases in the district, the police said.
The boy was last arrested on Monday after questioning by a police team.
Kottalai is located close to a popular tourist destination including the famous Sangam River and tourist spots in the state capital of Kochi.
