Faisalpur, India (CNN) It’s a place with a name that conjures up a different kind of history.
It’s the birthplace of Indian independence.
It has a rich cultural history, a thriving manufacturing industry, and a thriving women’s movement.
Now, as the nation’s third largest city, Faislabad is also the site of the second largest female-led business venture, a $200 million-plus venture by a group of business women led by former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
The success of this new venture, called India’s Business India, is emblematic of how the government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is taking a cue from his wife’s success in attracting business investment in his country.
For the first time, the Prime Minister’s daughter, Aneesha, is leading a major female-driven business venture that is now the subject of international attention.
The investment by the group of more than 40 women, including the president of a private equity firm, has raised eyebrows because the venture is a venture backed by a woman.
Aneesha Modi is the head of the venture, which is the largest female venture investment in the world.
The group of women is led by Faisali Sajjan, a former banker who is now co-chair of the Women Entrepreneurs Network, an industry-led group that includes several venture capital firms.
They say their venture is about “making sure that women are not excluded from the venture,” but also “that they are part of it, in it, and that they are empowered to make decisions,” she told CNN in an interview in her office.
They have a goal of becoming the largest venture fund for women in the country, and they are trying to leverage their expertise, she said.
It is a vision of a country where women can have access to capital and opportunities and also contribute to the economy.
“This is a very different vision of India than what you see today, and we want to go back to that,” she said, referring to the country’s political and economic system.
She said the group will work to develop the business plan, which includes the creation of 500 jobs in the city.
The government is also pushing ahead with the launch of a new “Women Entrepreneurs League” which will be led by Sajan and a group that include women who will help with training, marketing, and business development.
The league, which will begin on Jan. 7, aims to help women find jobs, build networks, and start businesses, she told the CNN India team.
Sajan, a professor at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, said the new venture is part of a broader effort to “develop and strengthen the business ecosystem for the empowerment of women.”
She said women have a “huge voice” in the workforce, but also in government, and are often overlooked because of their gender.
“We are trying our best to make sure that they have a voice in the government,” she added.
The venture is the second in the first phase of the “Women Leaders Initiative” which aims to “make India a women-friendly nation” and “support women to have their voices heard in decision-making.”
Sajjan said the team’s success is due to the support of the government.
“The government has been supportive,” she noted.
“They have supported us.
They have been open and willing to support us.
And it’s been a lot of work to get this to the point.”
It’s a very, very long road ahead, Sajnan said.
“But it’s a start.”
