More: The National Centre for Educational Research (NCER), a government agency, has put together this list of the best universities and colleges for women students in the nation.

According to NCER, the best schools are in the cities of Ahmedabad and Mumbai and the best colleges are in Delhi, Pune, Lucknow and Ahmedabad.

The universities of Mumbai, Panchkula, Surat and Kolkata are the top two most sought-after colleges.

The best colleges in the south are Delhi University, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi National Institute of Technology and IIM Ahmedabad, and IIB Ahmedabad (formerly IIT-JEE).

According NCER data, only 12.6% of the students in Indian universities are women.

Only 8.6 per cent of students in Delhi University are women, according to data from the Delhi University’s National Centre of Education (NCED) and Delhi University of Management Sciences (DUMS).

NCER has put out this list for the first time to help students navigate the college application process.

As per the NCER report, in 2015, only 1.3 per cent students from urban areas of the country are enrolled in government colleges.

Only 15.2 per cent female students enrolled in university in Delhi are enrolled at government colleges, while only 7.4 per cent male students are enrolled there, according the NCES data.
